E4OD 4R100 1989-2005
Ford E4OD and 4R100 transmissions are prone to case deflection because the OE design, which has a gap between the case and center support. When the center support bolts are torqued to OE specifications without the shim, typical case distortion is .005" in the area around the center support bolts, which causes valve body cross leaks as well as leaks of the 2nd clutch feed between the case and center support. Sonnax® center support shim fills this gap so that when the center support bolts are tightened, it prevents the case from distorting, decreasing case deflection and reducing cross leaks.

Cause:
Torqued center support bolts deflect the case where the valve body mates.
Correction:
Sonnax center support shim fills the gap between the center support and the case, preventing case distortion.The center support shim fills the gap between the outer diameter of the center support and the rough-cast surface inside of the case. Since the inside of the case is not a machined surface, the gap between the case and center support will vary between units. The shim thickness will work in MOST units, but due to the variability in case thickness, it will not work in ALL units.
